June is a great month in Hong Kong. The temperature is just cool enough to keep us from melting into the ground – which makes it the perfect time to challenge yourself with the best hiking trails in Hong Kong – and even if the weather is a bummer, there are still plenty of fun indoor activities to keep you entertained while staying dry. Read on to see what the city has in store for us this month.

Originated in Thailand, the world’s first water music festival ‘S2O Songkran Music Festival’ is a brilliant fusion between the water-sprinkling rituals of Songkran – the traditional Thai celebration for washing away bad luck and embracing the new year, and the high-energy of pulsating electronic dance and pop music. Since its launch, the festival has been held in Asian countries such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and this summer, it’ll be returning to Hong Kong in full force.

From June 8 to 9, over the Dragon Boat Festival long weekend, expect to get soaking wet at the Central Harbourfront Event Space as the festival welcomes partygoers to dance under the glow of bright lights, get splashed with an enhanced 360 degree water splashing system with patterns synchronised to the music, and enjoy electrifying sets from heavy-weight DJs from around the world.

Alternatively, stay nice and dry by the Summer Beats Stage (non-wet zone), which will see the addition of Rap Shows & Dance Battles this year with rappers and street dance enthusiasts from Hong Kong and around the world showcasing their skills in friendly competitions. Last year's Glam Zone and Food Village will also make a comeback, ensuring that everyone can look fabulous and stay fuelled with food and drinks throughout the entire night.

Early bird tickets are available from 11am on Wednesday March 27 on Klook.com, where General Admission and VIP tickets will range from $780 to $2,680. Public ticket sales will begin immediately after early bird tickets are sold out, with General Admission and VIP tickets ranging from $980 to $2,880.

High Street’s infamous haunted house has turned into a colourful art space! Designed by local architect Stanley Siu, the ‘Love in the Light’ Luminart exhibition combines art, architecture, and technology in a stunning shows that takes visitors on a romantic journey through time. Running from now to May 21, 2025, this year-long exhibition sees the arched veranda of  the Sai Ying Pun Community Complex light up in a rainbow of colours every 10 minutes in the evening from 6pm to 10pm.

The site has a rich history in the district as an iconic landmark that was completed in 1892. Even after renovations in 1998, the unique L-shaped granite veranda stands tall with its early Baroque detailing, including intricately carved arches and finely chiselled granite throughout. Despite being nicknamed as the ‘High Street Haunted House’ – due to the numerous ghostly sightings and its supposed past as a former execution hall used by the Japanese troops in the war, this unique location has been a popular spot for wedding photoshoots over the years, and its charming design makes the perfect location for the exhibition’s intimate storytelling. Immerse yourself in the historic surroundings and dance between the lights and the shadows, letting the music take you through the tales of love, from the first glance to a promise of forever.

Hong Kong’s fast-paced urban environment can sometimes be detrimental to our overall health and well-being. The constant hustle and bustle takes a toll on our bodies. If you need some time to reconnect with yourself and find inner peace, mark your calendar for June 5 for a unique forest bathing experience.

Forest Bathing, also known as shinrin yoku, is a Japanese practice that enhances both physical and mental well-being. It enables participants to alleviate stress, boost happiness, and fully engage their senses with nature by immersing themselves in the serene forest atmosphere.

The Pavilia Forest, the first residential project by New World Development and Far East Group at the former Kai Tak airport runway, incorporates wellness into its design and concept. Making the most of its scenic waterfront setting and the lush recreational amenities of Kai Tak, this development will seamlessly integrate the forest bathing concept into its serene environment this summer. On June 5 (Wednesday) from 4 pm to 5 pm, a Forest Therapy Guide from The Balanced Jungle, certified yoga instructor Janet Fong, will lead the forest bathing experience. Please note that the session will be conducted in Cantonese only.

Register for a slot today via this link; the registration deadline is May 28 (Tuesday) at 11.59pm.

Hong Kong creative Vaevae Chan and New York-based artist Jordan Kasey have collaborated to present a joint project that reflects the parallels between their lives, even though they live halfway across the world from each other. Hidden behind four identical doors in a nondescript industrial building – some of which simply open to artsy dead ends – Chan has created a subterranean world which follows on from her cave installation She Told Me to Head to The Sea from a couple of years ago, only this time the pitch-black darkness has been lifted by crystals and their refracted rainbows.

Make your way through the exhibition space to find a series of charcoal drawings and murals by Kasey which play on light, darkness, and the ensuing shadows. This is truly a multisensory journey that deserves to be experienced. See if Chan happens to be in her art space when you visit, and have a chat to understand the deeply personal story of loss, collective trauma, and multi-dimensional parallel universes that drove this series of work.
