One of the only big cities on the Costa del Sol where you’re likely to meet more locals than tourists in the high season, Málaga has often been overlooked for its more picturesque neighbouring towns like Ronda and Marbella. But, spend some time in the city and you’ll really get a taste of its charming character. In fact, there aren’t many things that Málaga leaves off the holiday tick list, packing in everything from sandy beaches and pretty ports to historic architecture and one of the best food scenes in the country.

With so much to see you’ll need a good base to recover and recoup from all your adventures (and somewhere to cook up all that tasty-looking local produce you’ve bought). From luxury hilltop villas with stonking ocean views, to compact city centre apartments perfectly located to explore the city on foot, these are the best Airbnbs to book now in Málaga.

Updated in May 2024: we consider Costa del Sol a gift that keeps giving, not just in terms of good weather but also incredibly unique stays for the siesta and fiesta types, and as such we couldn't keep this gorgeous escape in the foothills of the Sierra de Las Nieves national park or this bright apartment near Picasso's (yes thee Picasso) Birthplace a secret for much longer. We believe the term you're looking for is muchas gracias. No sweat, amigo.

The sun-soaked villa in Guaro

On the hunt for somewhere a little more inconspicuous to get your fill of vitamin D? You're in luck. Just a 45-minute drive from Malaga airport, this villa nestled in the magnificent foothills of Sierra de las Nieves is ready and waiting for your one-of-a-kind countryside retreat. If the sunset views don't knock your fisherman sandals off, we'll assume that's because you're simply not wearing any. We don't blame you – we too would be too busy enjoying a backstroke in the pool, or a sangria and siesta on the lounger to care about footwear. The only dress code here is a bikini as far as we're aware...

Rooms? Two bedrooms. Sleeps four.

The mood? Vinyasa in the hills

Location perks? You've seriously lucked out with these mountain views

Budget range? A little more decadent but not too spenny - even better when you split.
